Mansfield man injured trying to stop car being stolen

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 43-year-old man suffered minor injuries when trying to stop a man stealing his car in Mansfield on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at around 7.30am, when a yellow MG ZT was stolen from outside an address in Scarcliffe Street, Mansfield.

The offender, who has been described as white, in his mid 20s, with short dark hair and wearing a black jacket, drove the car at the owner as he escaped from the scene.

The owner was taken to King’s Mill Hospital for treatment and was released later the same day.

The car was found abandoned in nearby Tideswell Court about 20 minutes later and has been recovered for forensic examination.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw a yellow MG ZT travelling at speed in the area of Scarcliffe Street or Tideswell Court at around 7.30am, to contact DC 326 Andrew Bell at Mansfield CID on 0300 300 9999 ext 805 3132.
