Mansfield man fined for fly-tipping

A Mansfield man has been fined over an incident of fly-tipping at a beauty spot.

Christopher Place, 37, of Elton Road, appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday January 21, and pleaded guilty to an offence of failing in his Duty of Care contrary to s34(1)(c) and (6) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Place had asked an unidentified person to remove waste from a property in Sutton in Ashfield. The waste was later found to be fly-tipped on the car park of Maun Valley Trail.

He was fined £80 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and clear up costs of £100.

Cllr Mick Barton, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection at Mansfield District Council, said: “People disposing of waste must remember that they have a duty to ensure that their waste is disposed of responsibly by using licensed waste carriers.

“Always get a receipt and verified contact details of the person removing your waste and this could avoid prosecutions of this kind.

Fly-tipping is a significant and costly problem in the district and we will always seek to take legal action where possible.”
