Mansfield man charged with causing death of girl, 3, after eight vehicle crash

A Mansfield man has been charged with causing the death of a three-year-old girl following a crash involving eight vehicles including a lorry.

Thomas Hunter, aged 58, of Mansfield Road, was charged yesterday (December 5) by Thames Valley Police with one count of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The charges are in relation to a collision which occurred on August 25 this year on the A34 at Hinksey near Oxford.

Three-year-old Isla Wiggin was seriously injured in the incident and died two days later on August 27.

A 31-year-old woman also sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Seven cars and a lorry were all involved and the northbound carriageway was closed for ten hours.

Mr Hunter was arrested on August 25 this year on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He answered his bail yesterday and was re-arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and then charged.

Hunter has been released on bail to appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on 17 January.
