Mansfield litter-pickers clean for the Queen

Veolia, Nottinghamshire County Council’s Waste Contractors, organised a litter-pick with the Oak Tree Conservation Group in Forest Town.

Ten willing volunteers helped to collect 20 bags of rubbish and recyclables in the area as part of the national ‘Clean for the Queen’ tidy-up.

Lea Hawkes, general manager for veolia said: “We are proud to have taken part in the Clean for the Queen campaign, it’s about everyone working together to give the country a big spring clean ahead of Her Majesty’s birthday.”

The campaign was part of a national weekend of clean up activities, form March 4-6, ahead of the Queen’s 90th birthday in April.

Its aim was to get a million people out and about cleaning up their communities in the biggest community-led clean-up the country has ever seen.

Adrian Evans, director of Clean for the Queen, said it was great to see so many local authorities getting behind the campaign.

He said: “Litter is a problem that affects every corner of the country.

“By taking part in Clean for The Queen, individuals and communities will not only be giving The Queen a suitably impressive gift to mark her 90th birthday, they will also be giving themselves and their area a present – a clean space in which to live, work and play.”
