THEORETICAL physics student Peter Hufton has beaten 100 others to represent Leeds University on the TV quiz show University Challenge with Jeremy Paxman.
The 19-year-old found himself in the team of four after coming out on top in a pub quiz style try-out.
Ex-Brunts pupil Peter, of Windsor Road, Berry Hill, said it was important to grasp opportunities like this. But he added: “It is a bit scary and embarrassing but you cannot take it seriously - it is all fun.
“My parents are really excited and proud because we watch it together,” said Peter.
Nineteen-year-old Peter studied ‘A’ level maths, physics and chemistry in the sixth form and said he was enjoying his course at Leeds. He added: “There is a lot of work and it is challenging. There is also a lot of maths but it can be rewarding.”
Peter, who has applied to spend next year studying at the University of Illinois, USA, said the show was due to be aired sometime in July. “I am looking forward to meeting Paxman,” he said. “It is going to be a fun weekend.”
