Kids cooked up a treat as the first round of the Rotary Young Chef competition got underway at Queen Elizabeth’s Academy in Mansfield.

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Mansfield, the judges were Kelvin Bowman from the Rotary Club and Elaine Hall from the Black Bull, Blidworth, and they awarded the honours to Rees Welpton from The Brunts Academy.

Elaine Hall said: “I was flattered to be asked to be one of the judges of the Mansfield heat of Rotary Young Chef Competition 2013-14 and it proved to be a very interesting evening.”

With contestants ranging from 11 to 16 years old, Rees will go on to the regional finals in Kirkby in February.
