MANSFIELD: Have your say on new gateway development

From tapas bars to ice cream parlours, Mansfield residents are having their say on what they would like to see in Mansfield’s iconic new gateway retail and office building, Queen’s Place.

Mansfield District Council is asking residents to vote via a Twitter campaign on who they would like to see take up residence in the town centre eco-building.

The building on Queen Street, which opens on 21st November, creates two prime retail spots in the town centre.

The first unit opens out onto a potential pavement seating area and is ideal for a new restaurant, café or bar. The second unit faces the bus station and offers retailers some of the most visible window displays in Mansfield.

Now, Mansfield District Council is running a Twitter campaign to get residents to say what they think is missing in Mansfield and to tell retailers directly that they want them in the town.

Matt Hannah at Innes England, who isresponsible for finding the right retail tenants for Queen’s Place said: “Retailers have so many places to choose from in the UK to invest right now. They are much more likely to want to come to a town where there’s an active voice asking for them. The more people who take part in this campaign, the better the result for Mansfield.”

Head of regeneration Mike Robinson said: “With an average daily footfall of around 13,000, Queen’s Place, has more passing trade than East Midlands Airport. Its location and Mansfield offers retailers a great opportunity.

“Thanks to major levels of investment and a really strong public and private sector partnership driving growth, footfall and spending are up, crime is down and Mansfield is scaling the retail rankings. The town centre has a new bus station, an iconic gateway building in Queen’s Place and potential for a new shopping and restaurant quarter at Stockwell Gate North.”

“All we need to do now is encourage businesses to invest here by telling them we want them and that we will use them. All you need to do is Tweet the name of the retailer you want to @mdc_news #queensplace.”

Queen’s Place, which is owned by Mansfield District Council, provides retailers with some 3,171sqft (294.6sqm) split across two units in the landmark building.

The larger unit, at 177.6sqm, opens out onto a refurbished outdoor space and potential seating area on Queen’s Street. Its prime location, design, layout and outdoor space make for an ideal food and drink outlet.

The smaller unit, at 117sqm, with its floor-to-ceiling glazed frontage facing the transport interchange, provides retailers with one of the most visible window displays in the town. In addition to visibility by bus and rail passengers, the frontage is on the approach for drivers using the one-way town centre inner ring road.

With an A rating for energy performance and an expected excellent BREEAM rating, Queen’s Place will be the greenest building in Mansfield town centre.

Mike Robinson added: “The standard guarantees extremely low running costs, which will enable retailers to occupy the most up-to-date and environmentally sustainable, landmark building in the town centre at very competitive rates.”
