Named Midlands Business of the Year last month, the Sheepbridge Lane-based firm is already Europe’s largest manufacturer of catalytic converters, diesel particulate filters and front pipes.

And although exports account for more than 50 per cent of turnover - which totalled some £21.5 million in 2012 - commercial director Mark Blinston believes there are still further international markets to be explored.

“We want to get the same market share we have in the UK in the major European countries that have strict emissions legislation such as Germany, which is our biggest export market, France, Benelux and Scandinavia,” he said.

“They all offer big opportunities for us and we continue to grow in those as emissions standards get tougher and new technology comes in for new vehicles. It all looks very promising.

“We also have more products to come on board, so long as we keep our standards high it all adds up to a very positive outlook.”

Belton Massey currently manufacture more than 500,000 finished parts each year from its headquarters and a second factory in Huthwaite, acquired in 2010.

“We have to continue to improve the product and our processes, therefore improving what customers get, while keeping the costs down as much as we can,” added managing director Toby Massey.
