MANSFIELD: Driver taken to hospital after road smash

A man was taken to hospital after the car he was driving collided into the front of a building in Sutton Road at around 4.45 today (Monday, 12th October).

Two appliances from Ashfield Fire Station attended the incident, close to the St John Cockle pub. and cut the driver from the silver vehicle.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire Service told the Chad: “The driver was cut free by fire service personnel and then taken to hospital by ambulance.

“We don’t believe that he was seriously injured but he was complaining of chest pains.”

Nobody else was injured in the incident and it is not believed that any other vehicles were involved.

Lisa Booth, from the John Cockle pub described how she ran across the road to offer help when they heard a loud bang.

She said: “The car had collided into the doorway of flats across the road from the pub.

“Myself and one of the chefs are both first aid-trained so we ran across the road to see if we could be of any help.

“But the first responders got there really quickly and then the fire engines arrived.

They had to pull the vehicle back away from the building then got hydraulic cutting equipment to help free him.”
