Mansfield Doorwatch scheme launched to help door supervisors in pubs and clubs in the town

Called Mansfield Doorwatch, it has been created with the help of money from Mansfield Partnership Against Crime (MPAC) and is being run by Nottinghamshire Police licensing officer Kate Ansty.

Area managers for companies providing venues with door staff have been invited to join, along with head door supervisors.

It will work through quarterly meetings with police, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and other partners and pub and club owner Paul Anderton will be its first chairman.

Initial meetings have already taken place and have seen topics including appropriate age verification ID, training needs and police patrol plans discussed.

Members have been offered the chance to visit Mansfield District Council’s CCTV control room and have agreed on the best way to contact the controllers and pass on information about potential troublemakers that can be immediately shared with other premises.

With the group now officially launched, plans are being made for members to take part in a session designed by Drinkaware to enable door supervisors to identify situations of unwanted sexual attention and to deal with it effectively as first point of contact.

Enquiries are also being made into basic First Aid and fire evacuation training.

Commenting on the group, Ms Ansty said: “We are pleased with the response we have received to Doorwatch.

“The group will help to raise the level of best practice in the trade and promote better communication between partners and companies, so increasing the level of information and intelligence shared.”

Supt Richard Fretwell, chairman of MPAC’s executive group, said: “MPAC was keen to support Mansfield Doorwatch.

“It will help ensure a safe working environment for door staff and an even better service for those enjoying a night out in town.

“Its success further justifies Mansfield’s Purple Flag status, awarded recently in recognition of the fact that the town offers a wide range of activities to enjoy in a safe and friendly environment.”

Its next meeting will take place in January 2015.
