Two dogs were killed in a house fire at an address in Stacey Road earlier today (14th November), firefighters have revealed.

Crews from Mansfield and Ashfield fire stations attended the blaze at around 12.30pm, following reports that people were trapped inside the blazing house.

Two crews were initially called out but a third was scrampled following reports that people were still inside the property, which was described as ‘well alight’.

A fire service spokesman said: “The owners of the house were actually out when the fire took hold but they were notified by a friend or relative that their house was on fire.

“When we arrived they were all out of the property but their two dogs, who were both locked in the room where the fire took hold, were unfortunately killed.”

Crews used six breathing apparatus and two hosereel jets to tackle the blaze.

The residents, which included a three-year-old and an 11-year-old, were checked out by paramedics but did not need hospital treatment.

It is not yet known what caused the fire.
