Mansfield’s popular Party in the Park event will not go ahead this year, council chiefs have confirmed.

Council bosses say they have taken the decision because the Mansfield events calendar is jam packed with a range of exciting events during the summer, including the Olympic Torch visit and the new Mansfield Arts Festival.

Party in the Park is a music and entertainment event which forms part of the Summer in the Streets programme and is usually headlined by a national act - last year Gareth Gates - supported by local bands.

The Summer in the Streets festival will still take place this year and will include a wide range of events across the district between July and August.

The full timetable for Summer in the Streets 2012 will be announced in coming months.

Other events to feature in the council calender are Inspiring Mansfield including the grand finale at Berry Hill Park on 27th June, The Olympic Torch Relay visiting Mansfield District on 28th June, Mansfield Arts Festival from 7th to 15tg July and the Christmas Lights switch-on.

Coun Kate Allsop, portfolio holder for economic regeneration at Mansfield District Council, said: “We have an exciting calendar of events planned for this year which people from across the District and surrounding areas can get involved in. We have had to look carefully at how we can ensure these events are a success and therefore allocate our resources effectively. As a result we have postponed Party in the Park for this year but it will be back with a bang in 2013.”
