A Mansfield couple are to make the Great North Run a family affair, by raising cash for causes that affect their daughters.

Joann and Dave Plowright will run the half marathon next month for the Erb’s Palsy Group and Diabetes UK.

Proud parents of two daughter’s Hannah (7) and Lucy (3), Hannah has left arm Erb’s palsy and Lucy was recently diagnosed with type one diabetes.

Joann, who works for Mansfield 2020, said: “Both girls are full of spirit and
don’t let anything hold them back.

“The support we have received from both charities have helped us tremendously when we needed it.

“This is our way of giving something back them so they can long continue the great work they do and go on to support more and more families like ours.”

Dave, who works for Mansfield 103.2 radio, added: “It’s the first time Joann and I have taken part in a half marathon and it really is a family challenge whilst demonstrating to our girls you can do anything in life when you put your mind to it.

“We are hope our efforts will not only raise money for both charity but raise vital awareness that is needed to support the longevity of the charities.”

The couple are no strangers to charity drives, and continually raise money and awareness whenever they can.

Dave continued: “Most recently we raised £40 at my 40th Birthday party by donating a bottle of whiskey for the whiskey roll – the person’s coin closest to the bottle wins!’
