Teenagers from across Mansfield are being called to step up and run for election as the next Youth Mayor.
The scheme, set up by Mansfield District Council in 2008, will see locals stand to represent thousands of young people across the district.
The Mayor of Mansfield, Cllr Kate Allsopp, thinks the Youth Mayor initiative has helped involve young people in the democratic process and local decision-making. She said: “It is important at a time when there is generally a fall in the number of young people getting involved in the political process.”
The successful candidate will be involved with making decisions, attending local events and speaking to the media.
Young people who are interested in the role must be aged 14-18 on 1 September 2015 and be from Mansfield.
To qualify, candidates must be nominated through their school by Friday June 19.
They will be supported by the Mansfield District Council Community Engagement Team and receive training for their campaigns.
Elections will take place in October.
