Mansfield could get new advice centre

MANSFIELD folk could soon benefit from a new advice centre if a plan to buy the old Regent Street County Contact Point goes ahead.

Alan Lloyd, of the town’s Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB), said the organisation had made an offer on the building and reached an agreement with Nottinghamshire County Council.

“We are hoping to create something called Mansfield Advice Centre,” said Mr Lloyd. “We will provide a range of advice from voluntary sector organisations.

“Mansfield Community and Voluntary service will provide better chances of getting into employment and we will have Nottingham Credit Union.”

Mr Lloyd said the centre would not just be a new location for CAB, though.

He added: “We want to get a number of voluntary sector organisations working from there.

“For example, it could be a night refuge or a place of safety where people could be taken overnight in the right circumstances.”

Mr Lloyd said he hoped to see the centre up and running by April.

A county council spokesman said the sale proposal had been accepted subject to further approval and would go ahead as soon as conveyancing had been completed.
