Mansfield: Chapel’s walks boost hospice

Vicar Water and Sherwood Pines provided the tranquil backdrop for the Old Meeting House Unitarian Chapel, Mansfield’s series of sponsored walks that raised £1.838 for the John Eastwood Hospice.

The annual event saw three routes of different distances arranged for the 35 people of varying abilities who took part - one mile, five miles and 13 miles.

The youngest participant was aged 10 and the oldest 86 as the overall total was boosted by 10 per cent by Barclays Bank, who doubled the amount raised by one of their former employees.

“It was a fantastic effort by everyone involved and I’d like to thank them very much for it,” said the chapel’s minster Patrick Timperley.

“We do it every year whatever the weather, but this year it was in our favour and we had plenty of sunshine.

“It’s something we’ve been doing for five years now and is always popular.”
