Mansfield businesses urged to sign up to cost-cutting scheme

Edoc – which stands for ‘electronic duty of care’ - is a brand new online system for businesses to record details of what happens to their waste.

It provides a quick and easy alternative to the use of outdated and cumbersome paper ‘waste transfer notes’ (WTNs) which most businesses must currently complete and save for at least two years to comply with the law.

It is expected that edoc could save an average business up to half the administrative cost of waste transfer recording, as well as cutting down on paper and storage costs.

It will also provide a key tool for waste management businesses, who can use it to exchange waste transfer details with with their customers online.

One local organisation that is particularly keen to move over to edoc is Mansfield-based Savannah Rags International limited, which recycles and exports high quality second hand clothing, shoes and textiles to the third world.

Martin Kinsella, head of finance at Savanna International Ltd said, “As one of the more prominent textile recycling and sorting companies in the UK we process very large volumes of material. Our intake of raw material includes collections from many public sector bodies, councils and major waste management companies.

“In view of the above the efficient flow of documentation daily and weekly is vital to our operation.

“Presently we use modern forms of communication but we see edoc as a vehicle that will improve efficiency further and enable the safe flow of information even more.”
