Mansfield bids to retain its Purple Flag status

Purple Flag inspectors were in Mansfield this week as the town bids to retain its hard won status again.

A police briefing, the leisure park, the CCTV control room and several town centre premises were among Mansfield locations visited by Purple Flag assessors on Saturday(August 6).

The Purple Flag scheme judges towns and cities on factors including attractiveness and appeal, cleanliness, safety and the strength of joined up working to raise standards.

Mansfield was first awarded its Purple Flag in 2014 and after a successful light touch assessment last year, a new full application had to be made again this year.

Saturday night’s inspection saw the assessors meet and chat with those who work in the night time economy including street pastors and members of Mansfield Association of Licensed Venues (MALV) and walk around town from late afternoon until the early hours of Sunday morning.

BID Manager Sarah Nelson, said the inspection had gone well and added: “One comment from the lead assessor was that the evidence presented and turn out of partnership was the most comprehensive she had seen.”

The inspectors, one of whom came from Bromley in Kent and the other from North West Leicestershire, were working on behalf of the Association of Town Centre Management.

Their observations and report on evidence provided by the Purple Flag steering group will be considered with a lengthy application form submitted in June to determine if Mansfield retains its Purple Flag (PF) status.
