Mansfield bids for 'city' status

A NEW blueprint to establish Mansfield as a 'small city' has been unveiled by council chiefs today.

The proposal, entitled 'Creating a City Centre for Mansfield 2009-19' sets out Mansfield District Council's bid to transform the district over the next decade through regeneration and development.

Bosses say Mansfield is at the heart of the fifth biggest urban area in the East Midlands and one of 64 British urban areas recognised as being of city size.

And they hope the next 10 years will see the district building on existing redevelopment projects to maximise economic growth.
