Mansfield and Warsop jobs and businesses ‘protected’ due to ‘unprecedented’ support measures

Mansfield MP Ben Bradley says “unprecedented” measures taken during the Coronavirus crisis have helped to protect the area’s jobs and businesses.

Mr Bradley has welcomed Government’s economic support for thousands of people in Mansfield and Warsop, during the Coronavirus outbreak.

According to the MP, 13,500 jobs have been protected by the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and he claimed that Government grants were now covering 80 per cent of people’s wages, up to £2,500 a month.

He said that 3,500 self-employed people in Mansfield were receiving grants totalling £10,000,000 from the Government to help with the impact of coronavirus.

Mr Bradley also claimed that across the East Midlands, 559,100 people had been supported through the furlough scheme, where where an employee or worker agrees with their employer to stop work temporarily but remains employed, and that 153,000 self-employed people are receiving grants worth £444,000,000 from the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme.

Mr Bradley said: “We have had a world-leading economic response to coronavirus, and I am pleased that the Government’s schemes have helped thousands of people in Mansfield and Warsop through this incredibly challenging time.

“As we move through the second stage of our road map to recovery, we are determined to kick-start the engine of our economy while continuing to provide flexible support to those who need it.

“We will do everything we can to ensure people can pay their bills and put food on the table and I would like to thank everybody across Mansfield and Warsop for the sacrifices they have made during this time.”

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak said the economic response to coronavirus was “designed to keep people in work, protect people’s incomes, and support businesses.

“These measures have been on a scale unmatched by any government in recent history. All to give us the best chance of recovering quickly as the economy reopens.

“Now our energies are focused on getting people back to work safely, growing the economy and ensuring people can thrive in the new post-Covid world.”
