WORKMATES from 14 Iceland stores, including Mansfield and Sutton, took part in a 17-mile coastal walk to boost funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Around 60 Iceland staff walked from Mablethorpe to Skegness and raised £3,500 for the UK’s leading dementia research charity.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is Iceland’s Charity of the Year for 2011/12.
The company raised £1.2m for research into early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2011 and Chief Executive of Iceland Foods, Malcolm Walker, initiated things with an amazing Everest climb.
For 2012 Iceland has pledged to raise £1m to support ground-breaking research into the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease.
Kevin Richards, Iceland’s Area Manager for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, said: “I manage 14 stores and it’s been fantastic to see so much enthusiasm among our staff to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Seventeen miles is a long stretch but we did it and are now feeling very pleased with ourselves. Some of us are nursing a few blisters but we had a lot of fun and all for a really worthwhile cause.
Dr Marie Janson, Director of Development for Alzheimer’s Research UK, added: “It’s wonderful to know that everyone at Iceland Foods is helping us defeat Alzheimer’s disease.”
