Scam involving external mail boxes

Homes in Nottingham with external mail boxes on the house or the gate have been targeted recently by fraudsters.

The offenders have obtained the personal details of victims and used them to make fraudulent applications for credit cards. They have intercepted deliveries by filling the mail box with newspapers or leaflets, when post is then delivered it sits on top of the newspapers and can easily be retrieved by the criminals, who are thought to have been following Royal Mail staff on their deliveries.

If you see anything suspicious in your area, such as persons delivering leaflets or pamphlets but not going to every house, or you think you may have been targeted in this way, please report it on 101. If you have an externally fitted mail box make sure that you empty it regularly, including in the morning before your delivery is due.
