YOUNG people of the district have a new voice after electing Manor School’s Daniel Winfield as Mansfield youth mayor.
The 17-year-old won last Thursday’s election, organised by Mansfield District Council, and takes over from Simon Harper.
Dawn Meade (16), of Samworth Church Academy, becomes his deputy.
The election used the supplementary system.
Daniel received 1,177 first preference votes and 375 second choice votes – a total of 1,552. Dawn received 998 first preference votes and 248 second choice votes – a total of 1,246. Third candidate Rebecca Yemm (16) from Queen Elizabeth School received 852 first preference votes. Turn out was 3,096.
