Man slapped with £5,000 fine for flytipping

A 58-year-old man has been slapped with a hefty fine of £5,000 for illegal fly-tipping on land next to a derelict pub in Hucknall.

Martin O’Loughlin, of Portland Gardens, Hucknall, was helped by two men of Romanian origin, Nottingham Magistrates’ Court heard.

The trio originally pleaded not guilty, but changed their pleas to guilty just before their trial was scheduled to begin.

O’Loughlin admitted one charge of knowingly causing the deposition of controlled waste at the former Royal Oak pub on Portland Road on Thursday 11th July last year, without the authority of a current waste-management permit.

The waste comprised wood, carpet, black bags of waste, toys and cardboard, a large bulk bag and other similar items.

O’Loughlin was fined £5,000 and also ordered to pay court costs of £1,575, plus a victim surcharge of £120.

The two Romanian men were Calin Ionat Ridout (25), of Portland Road, and Ionut Puscas (26), also of Portland Road but a different address.

They both admitted one charge of depositing the aforementioned waste at the Royal Oak on 11th July.

Ridout was fined £250 and ordered to pay court costs of £200, plus a victim surcharge of £25.

Puscas was fined £100 and ordered to pay court costs of £100, plus a victim surcharge of £20.

The prosecution was brought by Ashfield District Council under the Environmental Protection Act of 1990.
