Man seriously injured after lorry crash on M1, leaving motorway closed in both directions in Nottinghamshire J25-24

A man has been seriously injured after a lorry hit the central reservation of the M1.

Officers are in attendance on the M1 between junctions 24 and 25 and near Castle Donnington after reports of a single vehicle collision involving a lorry and the central reservation of the motorway.

The M1 northbound and M1 southbound lanes between Junction 24 and 25 were closed while police work to establish the circumstances. The northbound has been released in lanes 1 and 2 past the scene, to release trapped traffic

A man has been taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of the M1 will remain closed until they have been cleared

Inspector Paul Hennessy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “No one else is thought to have been injured in the collision and we are now hard working to establish the circumstances around this incident, the road will remain closed whilst we carry out these critical enquiries."

Diversions are in place.

Southbound - to leave at J25 via the A52 westbound, A5111 southbound, A6 & A50 eastbound to return at J24. Follow the hollow square symbol.

A spokesman for Highways England said:

“Our officers are working on removing traffic caught within the closure as fast as possible (it's a complex task, we appreciate your patience). There's long delays approaching J25 southbound and J24a northbound.”
