No other vehicles were believed to have been involved.

Subsequently, a police investigation was launched to establish the circumstances of the incident and events leading up to the collision.

They also launched an appeal for witnesses on Christmas Day that could help with their investigation.

Detective Constable Sarah Stables, of Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We believe a tall man with a ginger beard was walking past around the time of the crash and we'd urge him to get in touch with us as soon as possible as he may have key information which could assist us with our investigation.”

Those who have any information are asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 662 of 24 December 2020.
