Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, May 25, how David Knowles, 46, of Main Road, Langwith, breached the restraining order by twice walking down his step-daughter’s road in Langwith.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “Knowles has a conviction for assaulting his step-daughter and her mother from 2015 and also has a caution from 2013 for a domestic violence related assault involving the step-daughter’s mother and for damaging her phone. The court imposed a restraining order last September preventing contact but the complainant said she saw him on the street and he came back past her house an hour later.”

Ms Haslam added there was no direct contact but Knowles breached the order by going down the street and the step-daughter felt intimidated. Knowles accepted he had breached his restraining order by going to the street twice.

The defendant pleaded guilty to breaching the restraining order after the incident on April 29.

Defence solicitor Denny Lau said: “He accepts he had walked up the street on the closest side to the house but when he came back he tried to be a distance away on the other side of the road not causing trouble.”

District Judge Andrew Davison fined Knowles £400 and ordered him to pay a £40 victim surcharge, £85 costs and £100 compensation.
