Man locked up for Kirkby stabbing

An 18-year-old man who stabbed a 30-year-old man in Kirkby seven times in the stomach, causing him life-altering injuries, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Earl Obi, of Kingbury Road in Birmingham, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to one count of grievous bodily harm at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (23 November 2018).

Obi was 17 when he attended a party in Lowmoor Road on 14 October 2017, a dispute followed with a passerby resulting in him being stabbed. Police were called to the scene at around 11.30pm and the victim was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. He was in a coma for several days.

After committing the offence, Obi returned to his home in Birmingham but was later arrested. Detectives were able to link him to the scene through a knife that was found in the address, DNA and witness accounts.

Detective Sergeant Mark Dickson said: “Obi showed no mercy when he picked up the knife from within the house and stabbed his victim multiple times. He is clearly capable of violence on an extreme level and these actions will not be tolerated in Nottinghamshire. We hope that the victim can now move on from the ordeal despite being left with multiple injuries.”
