The 24-year-old, who is not being identified, previously pleaded guilty to causing or allowing serious physical harm to the baby girl between Wednesday 19th September 2012 and Tuesday 18th December 2012 — either by causing the harm himself or by not being aware, or not taking responsible steps to prevent, the risk of harm.

He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday 8th January, to two years and eight months in jail.

The youngster was found to be in breathing difficulty on the morning of Tuesday 18 December 2012.

She was taken to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre but was subsequently pronounced dead.

While a Home Office post-mortem examination revealed multiple non-accidental fractures of varying ages to the child, the cause of death was inconclusive.

Detective Chief Inspector Yvonne Dales said: “This is a tragic case in which a baby girl suffered some horrendous injuries during her very short life.

“She couldn’t tell anyone what was happening to her and unfortunately the nature of these injuries meant it took her death to expose them.

“Her relatives are left with unanswered questions over the cause of her death, but I hope this court outcome at least goes a way towards giving them some sense of justice — that for the distress she suffered in the weeks before she died her voice has ultimately been heard.”
