Man jailed for assaulting Mansfield policeman with sandwich

A man has been jailed after hurling his sandwiches in a policeman’s face, causing a cut to his lip.

Twenty-year-old Thomas South, of Nottingham, threw the full carton at the PCSO James Wilkinson while fleeing officers after using counterfeit cash to buy it in Mansfield town centre’s Costa Coffee.

Judge Andrew Hamilton jailed South for 14 months - two months for the assault, consecutive to 12 months for the counterfeit money charges.
