Man in hospital with serious injuries after Notts crash

A man was air-lifted to hospital with serious injuries after his car collided with a refuse collection lorry.

Firefighters had to cut open the car to free the male driver after the collision at around 7am this morning in London Road, Retford (Monday, February 29) and roads are still closed according to police.

Nottinghamshire police confirmed a man sustained serious injuries and was taken by East Midlands Air Ambulance to Sheffield Northern General Hospital.

A spokesperson said: "The driver has serious injuries and the roads are still closed. The driver of the refuse collection lorry is unhurt, and an air ambulance was on the scene at 7.58am."

Firefighters said they also attended, adding: "We received the call at 7.09am this morning.

"Two appliances from Retford and a specialist rescue from Tuxford were in attendance. We used cutting gear to extricate one person form the car. One adult male was conveyed to hospital via air ambulance."
