Man gets off lightly after police assault

A Kirkby man has been given a 12-month community order after admitting kicking a police officer during a fracas.

Mansfield magistrates were told how police attended Richard Booth’s home on Southwell Close after screams were heard coming from inside.

Robert Carr, prosecuting, said 45 year-old Booth’s partner was seen lying on the floor of his flat and seemed to be in pain when a police officer entered.

Booth was arrested after assaulting the officer when he was told either he or his partner would have leave the flat for the night to calm down a volatile situation.

Paul Bilton, defending, said a psychological report gave a history of a troubled background. He was ordered to pay £75 compensation.
