A man who was released from prison on New Year’s Eve bit another man during a struggle, it is alleged.

James Anthony Timothy Carroll (34), of no fixed address, denies assault occasioning actually bodily harm, claiming it was in self defence.

Mansfield magistrates heard how Carroll had gone to his sister’s house on Stone Crescent, Mansfield, on the day of his release and got into an altercation with his sister’s partner, who wanted him to leave. The pair ended up in a fight, with Carroll being put in a headlock.

Claiming he could not breathe, it is then said he sank his teeth into the victim’s forearm, drawing blood and leaving teeth marks.

Denied bail, Carroll will now appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 16th January.
