Man charged with GBH after Kirkby assault

A man faces trial after knocking an 86-year-old pensioner to the ground outside an Ashfield Morrisons.

Nottinghamshire Police said a 57-year-old man, Stephen Chapman has been arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm after assaulting an elderly man.

Chapman, of no fixed address reportedly knocked the pensioner to the ground outside the Kirkby store. He was subsequently taken to hospital with a serious hip injury.

Police said: "The incident took place on May 25 2016 at some time between 10.20am and 11am.

"Officers believe there are a number of witnesses to what took place who have yet to come forward and are urging people to get in touch."

Chapman appeared at Mansfield Magistrate's Court on Friday, May 27 for a preliminary hearing and is now on bail, due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 24.
