Officers are also warning residents to be vigilant after a number of thefts from vehicles in the Mansfield district.

Inspector Nick Butler, of the Mansfield Partnership Hub, said: “It’s important that people make sure their vehicles are not an easy target.

“I met with residents on Tuesday night and they raised concerns about prowlers and vehicles being broken into in the Berry Hill area.

“As a result we targeted the area and changed some officers’ shifts to work through the night.

“I’m pleased to say we have had a good result but we will continue with our plans as there are still thieves about at night. We really need everyone to make sure they don’t leave valuables in their vehicles and make sure they are locked.”

Police are also urging Mansfield residents to report any suspicious people or vehicles to them immediately by calling 101.

Insp Butler added: “We’re urging residents to be a bit more savvy to avoid them becoming a victim of vehicle crime. We’re also encouraging them not to hesitate in reporting any suspicious vehicles or people to us. Our message to them is ‘if you’re in doubt, shout’ and let us know.”

Anyone with information about the thefts is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
