A man has been arrested for assaulting a child in a Kirkby park at the weekend.

The man was reported to grab a child - aged around 10-years-old - at West Field Park - know locally as ‘Greeny Park’ on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “The man in question at West Park Field in Kirkby was arrested at the scene for common assault of a minor.

“He was then cautioned and released. He is not from the area, it’s believed that he was just in the area visiting. No reports of grooming have been filed or even discussed.”

This is the second incident in the past few weeks at the park.

Youngsters’ iPhones were stolen in another attack.

Residents and members of the West Park Committee met last night to discuss ways to make the park safer for children.
