Money is still being collected and counted from the event but so far has topped £4,661 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Organiser Karan Coleman has been a fundraiser for the charity since her brother died from an undiagnosed heart condition. She set up a local fundraising team and is delighted with this latest event’s success.

“So far we have raised £4661.08 from this wonderful day and we still have over £300 left to collect,” said Karan.

“I am over the moon that our team target currently stands at £8,591.58 which is awesome.”

The event, which was held on bank holiday Monday in May at the Horse and Groom pub, included a sponsored fire walk, barbecue, stalls, bouncy castle and so much more.

“It could not have gone better,” added Karan. “The local people rallied round to make it a success and I could not believe how busy it was from the start to the very end.

“We had 35 dogs enter the dog show which was a real surprise and we had Mr Hearty and surprise guest Coco The Clown. This was a young man called Dylain who had heart surgery as a little boy who judged the show and helped out with his parents.

“His mum Sionead also took part in the fire walk as she had wanted to do something to say thank you for the great work BHF are doing.”

Live bands also played during the event and an auction, led by GMB union’s Bob Grimley also proved popular.

“The actual fire walk was inspirational and such an empowering experience. It was a truly great day which generated a real sense of community.

“It was a lovely day in memory of my brother David and it raised lots of money for a very good cause and I would like to say thank you to everyone who helped out on the day.”
