Residents and visitors packed into the High Street which was closed off to vehicles for the special event.

Pupils from King Edwin Primary and St Mary’s schools joined together to perform a number of Christmas Carols that attracted a large audience who were welcomed to the event by parish and county councillor John Peck as well as Father Tony Evans.

“It was a wonderful event with several hundred visitors,” said Coun Peck. “It was our best event ever, with more stalls than before and the street full of people for several hours.”

Stalls lined the street selling festive treats, food and drink as well as a number of fundraising activities from pluck-a-duck to tombolas and lucky dips to keep the whole family entertained.

“It is a brilliant event that brings the whole community together and helps create a wonderful Christmay atmosphere,” added Coun Peck.

There was live entertainment outside the Old Library as well as fairground rides and sideshows including a traditional Punch and Judy show and old time carousel organ which delighted the crowds.

Many businesses which line the High Street brought their goods and products out onto the street on stalls including the Ganache Cake House and Goff’s the butcher. Santa’s Grotto was a highlight for many as youngsters let Father Christmas know their wishes.

Coun Peck added: “The parish council invested more money in extra lights this year and thanks must go to Forest Holidays who provided us with a terrific tree. People now visit from the surrounding villages too as it really is a wonderful festive event.”
