LETTER: Why does Mansfield need so many councillors?

We have had a lot of coverage in the Chad lately about the future of the market.'¨So I hope you will give the same coverage to what are in my view the undemocratic goings on at Mansfield District Council. '¨A committee investigated the proposals of the portfolio holder and reported back saying they did not like them. '¨The portfolio holder told the council he was going to implement them under delegated authority.'¨So why do we need 36 councillors if any one person can over rule everyone else?'¨We just need the ten portfolio holders, then we could save money by paying ten members instead of 36.'¨In my view the present system is the most undemocratic I have ever come across regarding the market.
