LETTER: What callous society are we becoming?
Years ago, my daughter on the way to work in Nottingham, used to take a homeless man into McDonald's, buy him breakfast, have a coffee with him and then carry on to work.'¨It was never a problem and no complaints.'¨Now I hear that McDonald's is happy to take money from the homeless buying their own breakfasts early in the morning, but then hurrying them to finish and leave as there are complaints from customers. Even on one occasion calling the police, apparently.
Haven’t these people got enough to put up with?
A little compassion and understanding goes a long way. There but for the grace of God go all of us. Homelessness can strike anyone at any time, often through no fault of their own.
Let McDonald’s allow these people to eat their breakfast in peace and in the warmth, especially after having to spend the night out in the cold. One wonders what sort of callous society we are in danger of becoming.
