LETTER: Time to pull together and make it work

Well, the people have spoken. True democracy at work the arguments made and every vote counted. To everyone's surprise the ordinary folk of Great Britain made the biggest decision this country has taken since the war, clearly they wanted to leave the EU.

Panic by the ruling classes has set in with senior politicians resigning, Scotland wanting to leave the union, stock markets crashing etc. The end of the world is upon us and what are we going to do?

I’ll tell you what we are going to do, we, the ones that really matter, the normal hard working people of this country, are going to pull together, put the referendum behind us and get on with the work needed to adjust to the new world, as we have no option and there’s no going back, ever.

We desperately need new people at the helm, new leaders, people who have the best interests of this country at heart and we need them now, not in three months’ time.

It’s perhaps time for some of our MPs to seriously consider their own positions and do the right thing and resign immediately, as a massive majority (more than 70 per cent in Mansfield alone) of their constituents voted against them and their party’s views.
How can they support our people in the future when they don’t share their views or aspirations now and why didn’t they even bother to find out their concerns and fears during the referendum campaign. Perhaps once again they underestimated their intelligence and just thought they would do as they were told and expected them to vote the way they always have and they were shocked when they didn’t.

Towns and cities like ours have been let down so many times by the old guard and these same people have totally ignored our needs on so many occasions and now they’ve had their come-uppence and they don’t like it in my view. Tough, get over it and let’s move on.

More than ever everyone in the UK needs to work together no matter how they voted, as it is clear that we face difficult and challenging times ahead and it requires everybody to do their bit to make this brilliant country of ours even better than it was before.
