LETTER: Thanks from Boxer Dog Rescue

Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire Boxer Rescue would like to thank everyone who came along to Morrison's in Mansfield Woodhouse on Sunday April 17 and very generously donated more than £465.30 toward our vet and kennel fees. Thank you so much to Morrison's for allowing us to fund-raise at your store.

This weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 23 and 24, we will be at the All About Dogs Show at Newark Showground where we will be running the dog show with three new classes, ‘best paw shaker’, ‘musical sits’ (similar to musical chairs, but the dog has to sit down when the music stops) and a ‘dog with a disability’ (blind, deaf, limb missing etc).

Over the last few years, we have noticed a steady increase in dogs being handed in with “disabilities”. These tend to be deafness, blind or missing limbs. We have had dogs so severely abused limbs have had to be removed to give them some quality of life. It is now not uncommon to see a three-legged dog or one eyed dog. Years ago, these dogs would have been destroyed but due to advances in veterinary research and the dogs own resilience, they can now undergo surgery and learn how to play again and live a very happy and fulfilling life.

These events and our own fun day are crucial to the survival of the rescue as not only do we raise funds towards vets and kennel fees, it is where we talk to members of the public about adopting, fostering and becoming a volunteer - you don’t have to commit lots of hours per week. Anyone who wishes to come along and help at an event, either with the dog show, talking to people about their experiences of being a boxer owner to those making enquiries, helping on the stall, or just making the tea will be made most welcome.

If you can support us in any way, no matter how large or small, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for you continued support and interest..
