LETTER: Survey is not a true reflection on Oakwood Surgery

Last week, on the Chad website, it featured a story about the NHS Choices website patient ratings of 28 local GP surgeries.

For Oakwood Surgery, a figure of 51 per cent was quoted, based on 18 patients who chose to review the surgery on the NHS Choices Website (dating back from 2010). We feel this is not a true reflection of what most Oakwood Surgery patients tell us.

To provide a more realistic and balanced view, the same NHS Choices website also publish our Friends and Family test score: 72 per cent, based on 39 patients who recommend the practice (posted over the last 12 months). Further positive news: In January of this year the surgery was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and has now received an overall ‘good’ rating from the inspectors. The rating of good was across the board, in all areas they looked at:

Additionally, as members of the Oakwood Patient Participation Group (PPG) we have carried out evaluations of patient concerns and satisfaction for a number of years and the surgery works really hard to address these.

Almost every patient taking part in our recent questionnaire, has expressed appreciation of their medical care provided by GPs and other clinical staff. The PPG survey found that 71 per cent of our patients would recommend Oakwood Surgery.

Reporting, such as that evident on your website, is unfair to a dedicated group of professional care-givers and their support staff, working very hard to provide the best for their patients – despite recruitment challenges faced by Oakwood Surgery and many GP Practices nationally.
