Legal service scam warning

Trading Standards watchdogs have issued an alert over legal services scams, after a spate of complaints from local residents.

Complaints have been made about unsolicited telephone calls offering various legal services, including wills, power of attorney, and asset trusts.

The businesses attempt to sign you up to these services at a high cost and may not deliver the service they have promised. Some of the services offered may be unsuitable or unnecessary.

If you are interested obtaining a legal service such as this we would advise you visit a local, qualified solicitor who can offer a professional service.

Trading standards would like to remind people that you should never deal with anyone who cold calls by telephone or at the door and you should never provide personal information/bank details to cold callers.

If you have received cold calls either by phone or at the door, and felt pressurised in any way, you should report it to the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 08454 04 05 06. You can also visit www.adviceguide.org.uk for advice.
