At this very special knights school for dads, families will be invited to hone their skills for the battlefield and impress fair maidens.

They will be greeted by the medieval castle knight and hear tantalising tales of chivalrous battles and fearsome quests.

Throughout the day there will be the chance to hear about the amazing weaponry and armour before training commences where only the brave need apply! In the afternoon children can do battle ahead of the big tournament to decide who is the victorious father and chivalrous child.

Amanda Till, English Heritage Events Co-Ordinator said: “Bolsover Castle is the perfect setting for this Father’s Day knight school and what better opportunity for children to have a memorable day with their dads than taking part in some medieval sword training. There’ll be weapons displays and talks, and a chance to see how the real knights do it with clashing swords and shields.”

There will also be the opportunity to witness expert horsemen in flamboyant 17th century costume put horses through their paces to baroque music in the spectacular surroundings of the Riding School at Bolsover Castle. The breathtaking displays of cavaliers in training as per Cavendish’s riding techniques will be taking place in shows at 11am, 1pm and 3pm (check website for details and booking).

The day runs from 10am to 6pm.
