Lawrence heritage is up for an award

Eastwood’s DH Lawrence Heritage has been recognised for its work in the local area after being shortlisted for the prestigious ‘Heart of the Community Award’ at this year’s East Midlands Heritage Awards.

The nomination recognises the work of the heritage centre within the local community to keep alive the Lawrence legacy and preserve the heritage of Eastwood.

The DH Lawrence festival in Eastwood is now in its 12th year.

During last year’s DH Lawrence festival – which is now in its 12th year – over 4,000 people attended events in the town marking the centenary of the outbreak of World War One by exploring how the war affected Lawrence, his life, his work and the lives of those at home in Eastwood.

Events included a themed shop window display competition, a special war event hosted by Eastwood Historical Society, and an exhibition exploring the effect of World War One on those at home in Eastwood.

The 2015 festival aims to be even more diverse than previous events. This year it has been re-branded as the DH Lawrence Festival of Culture and aims to attract an even wider audience with an extensive programme of over 40 events. The festival will start on August 27.

DH Lawrence Heritage has also just received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award which recognises attractions which consistently achieve great traveller reviews on TripAdvisor and deliver superior customer experience.

The Heart of the Community Award will be presented at an evening ceremony in Nottingham on June 9.
