Campaigners fighting to stop an incinerator being built on their doorstep are calling for a final burst of local support.

People have until 22nd September to lodge their concerns about the proposals from Peel Environmental to build the plant at Bilsthorpe’s business park.

The village-based action group, RAGE (Residents Against Gasification Experiment) have been working to halt the plans, but want people to have their say before the application is considered by Nottinghamshire County Council.

Sara Burton, RAGE secretary, said: “The company has responded to the planning questions raised by Nottinghamshire County Council however they are still failing to tell us what waste they will be burning or where it will be coming from. RAGE finds this very worrying.”

Campaigner Shlomo Dowen: “It’s not surprising that people have concerns about the proposal and don’t want to live next to an experimental facility, especially as the application assumes the incinerator would treat hazardous waste.

“I hope the planning committee rejects this unwanted and unnecessary proposal.”

Newark & Sherwood District Council is expected to review the proposal at a meeting on the 7th October with the county council to hold a special planning meeting to consider the application.

To have a say, go to the county council’s website and search for application ES/2950.
