Labour candidate Lesley Wright triumphed in Thursday’s Mansfield District Council by-election in Meden Vale and Church Warsop.
The poll in the Netherfield ward was called following the death of Independent member Derek Evans earlier this year.
Newly-elected Coun Wright took the seat with 347 votes, with Sid Wright (UKIP) polling 225 and Karen Seymour (Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts) 29.
The turnout for the by-election was 27.23 per cent (out of an electorate of 2,235).
