Members of Ashfield Labour party have been knocking on doors to find out what the party could do to win the next general election.
Although Labour did well in Ashfield, the party failed to win enough seats across the rest of the country, so the politicians and activists were asking folk for their views on local issues and what they think the party needs to do.
Ashfield Labour party – led by Gloria De Piero MP, and councillors John Knight and Jackie James – were out knocking on the doors of Kirkby residents as part of a special canvassing session on Friday, July 10.
Gloria said: “We are out all year-round and not just at election time to listen to residents’ concerns and act on them whenever necessary.
“But at this stage it was also a great opportunity to ask Labour supporters and sympathisers to take part in the party’s leadership debate and ensure that as many voices from Ashfield are heard when it comes to the conversation about who should be the next leader.
“It was a really positive response too and we got a good number of people signing up on the evening as registered supporters,” added the MP.
The group are now urging Labour supporters and sympathisers, who are on the electoral register, to sign up as a registered supporter of the party at a cost of just £3 before August 12.
