Kirkby’s Festival Hall is the perfect place for your event

WHETHER your event is large or small, Kirkby’s Festival Hall has long since been regarded as one of Ashfield’s premier entertainment venues.

Since its pre-Second World War days when the venue played host to outside broadcasts for BBC music concerts, Festival Hall has blossomed into a thriving multi-use venue at the heart of the Kirkby community.

Now the Hodgkinson Road venue, which was developed into a leisure centre in 1980 before a further expansion in 1983, is home to music concerts, tribute nights and DJ nights as well as activities for local community groups, and occasional weddings and birthday parties.

Russell Webster, who has worked at the venue since 1983, said the centre had continously improved down the decades.

“Festival Hall has progressed and has got better as a venue. Music events and tribute nights are a massive part of what we do,” he said.

“We are a versatile venue with both a gym and entertainment area giving us two sides to our business. We have meeting rooms available for hire and often host weddings, meetings and birthday parties.”

“We are the entertainment centre of Ashfield and the only place in the district that can host events of the size that we do. We are hoping for a good 2013. Things are tough with the economy at the moment, but we offer great facilities at a good price and we always have something booked.”

Nick Stowey, general manager, said centre bosses were currently preparing for one of their busiest times of the year.

He said: “Every month we have an act or event on and leading up to Christmas we have more than usual ranging from discos, tribute acts and 70’s and 80’s themed music nights.

“We even hold a monthly indoor car boot with over 50 stalls and are hosting a craft fair as part of the Kirkby Christmas Festival in December.”
